GAAAAAAH

Some of you may or may not know, but I will be turning 28 next week. Bub's and I have been going strong for about 4 years now. For the past year we have been getting asked over and over and over again by family members and a few friends when him and I were gettin' hitched.

For those of you new here I live in New York. Now, out of all my friends only 1 is married. Most are not engaged and even some recently ended things with their boyfriends of 4+ years. I know this isn't as common in other areas of the globe but out here on Long Island this is the norm. Most people now a days don't get married out here till you're in your late 20s/early 30s.

Yes, I love my boyfriend. Yes, I am happy with him, but honestly whenever it happens it will happen and I am SO ok with that! Us being married will not change a darn thing. Sure, I can go under his health insurance plan and we can finally start to look at houses but thats pretty much it. Besides, going to the DMV to change my maiden name does not sound like a fun Saturday afternoon. Maybe I'll just make him change his name instead, OR we can BOTH change our last name, suffer at the DMV together, and end up with a last name like "awesome". Mr and Mrs.Awesome at your service. "Oh hey the Awsome's are here!" "did you hear what the Awesome's did this weekend?" (sorry just giggled to myself for a moment there)

I don't think people realize that when they ask Bub and I over and OVER again about our relationship status and what our timeline is for getting married that it's slightly hurtful. I feel like we are being judged for not being engaged yet. I mean come on people give me a break over here it's not like I am 50, single and living with 30 cats all named after members of 1990s boy bands (come here Justin!  JC stop clawing at Brian!. Dang it Lance STOP PEEING ON THE COUCH!)

Him and I are happy and thats all that matters :)

And even if its not engagement people pressure you that once you are married "when are you having kids??" then you get pregnant and I am sure all my pregnant friends are sick of hearing "Hey, are there TWINS in there?" "when are you due? you look like your about to BURST!" then you pop out a kid and people just start asking ya when the heck you're launching another one out of your va-jay-jay.

I think people need to respect other people's decisions and personal life.

Which is why I finally went to my sounding board and voiced my opinion to my facebook wall. I figured if my friends and family saw my status they would FINALLY leave both of us alone and take a chill pill, or a valium, or a vodka tonic. And, well, things got a little crazy over there.

The cast of characters involved are:

Leonora = me
Catherine = Bub's Brother's Girlfriend (ya with me still?)
Grace = Bub's Aunt
Steve = Bub (Yeah, he has a name, who knew)
Phil = My Cousin

All the last names have been blurred out cause, well, the internet is a creepy place.

Ya can't make this stuff up.

Share the Beauty! Face Beauty Tips!

It's another week of sharing our favorite beauty weapons that make us all look all pretty and junk.

This weeks prompt was "face beauty".

Now ever since I got bangs people have been telling me that I look like a porcelain doll. Side note: my nationality is 100% italian. One would never guess this due to my transparent skin and green eyeballs. Pretty sure there was a baby swap at the hospital-but I've grown to love my family so I just didn't question it.

Anyway, I need all the "face beauty" I can get. I don't tan and I don't have much color in my face. Instead of pinching my cheeks to get some color into them I have turned to less painful methods and have reached out to blushes and bronzers.

NARS BLUSH IN ANGELIKA

I have always been a huge fan of blush. It just helps ya look fresh and awake. I have gone through hundreds of brands of blush. Finally I have found thee one. NARS is an excellent brand of cosmetics. Their colors are vivid and will last once they are swept on your cheeks. I use my blush every.single.day and it takes me a good year to go through an entire thing of NARS blush.

I love the color "angelika". Its this bizarre mix of a muted hot barbie pink. It also has a hint of glitter in it-not like "1990s Christina Aguilera borderline porn star" glitter, but a very subtle amount of glitter that when the light hits your face you can see a bit of sparkle. The color looks SUPER intimidating but once I brushed it on my cheeks it looked really natural because the color blended into my skin, it didn't just "lay" on top of it. It didn't look as though I was applying eyeshadow to my cheeks.

BARE MINERALS BRONZER IN WARMTH

Now, I was never a "bronzer" fan. Let's be honest, I am pale as fudge (I know what you're thinking "fudge isn't pale", well if any of you have seen "a christmas story" then you would know that "I didnt say fudge" just there)
So I was really super nervous to try out a bronzer on my light skin because, well, I didn't want my face to look super cute and sunkissed yet my neck look like the white reflector tape around those stop signs.

I got my first bronzer in that bare minerals sampler kit. I gave it a go and I absolutely LOVED IT. The trick to this is that A LITTLE GOES A LONG LONG LOOONG way. The pigment is SUPER intense so go easy with it at first. Also a little tip: when applying this stuff first apply to your face, then with any remainder left over on the brush just do a quick swoop around your jawline and neck to blend it in a bit. My one friend does not blend in her bronzer and there is a distinct line of brown around her jawline. It freaks me out. She looks like she has a chin-strap goatee and I have a hard time looking her in the eye.

Works in Progress Wednesday! The "Cooking" edition

I am so happy I got the opportunity to work with Chelsea! She contacted me about wanting a fancy smancy logo for her blog.

She wanted it to incorporate her robin's egg blue mixer, throw in a little "fun", add in some "faith" and finish it off with some "bazinga" (ok she didn't say "bazinga") (do you watch Big Bang Theory?) (cause if not then you have no idea what I am talking about) (bazinga) (you just googled it didn't you?)

I LOVE this color combo!

You can also check out more designs I have made over here! Thank you Chelsea for having me be a part of your blog :)

Share the Beauty! Whats your favorite foundation?

Hey Loves! Welcome to "foundation week" at the Share the Beauty Link up Party! Even if you're not linking up I hope you all are experiencing some new awesome products out there that you didnt know existed!

Now just like last weeks when we talked about face care I have another confession for this weeks prompt: I don't really use foundation all that often.

Now before you get all "you suck you are blessed with the skin of an angel" you should know that I have THEE WORSE under eye circles known to man kind.

When the zombie apocalypse happens I'll be super prepared. I wont do my under eye make up that day and then the zombies will think I am one of them, thus sparing my brains.

Wow, ok, I totally just talked about the zombie apocalypse on my blog just now.

Some of you might remember this post here where I share my all time favorite foundation products for conquring under eye circles. I even included a fancy tutorial on how to battle them. So instead of repeating myself you can go to this link to learn how to not be a zombie.

(see my dark circle tips here!)

BUT I do love me some foundation for when I am feeling friskaaay. (ok, fact: I never actually feel "frisky". By feeling frisky I mean going to a wedding or seeing people from high school 10 years later)

So when I want to even out my skin tone I use (DUN DUN NA DUUUUN) (just go with it, I am trying to be all dramatic)

So I was using my hand dandy bare minerals powder for all over even coverage for forever and a day. I never wanted to ever use "fluid-y" type of foundation in fear of, well, I dont know what I feared.

When I realized that bare minerals literally uses minerals it kinda made me nervous knowing I was inhaling rock dust everyday. I went to MAC and got a fun little make over (you can get one too! Just buy 2 products from them and you get a FULL makeover) and the girl put this stuff on me.

HOLY FREKKIN COW.

I love it I love it I LOVE IT. You do have to apple it with a big 'ol "blush brush" type of brush. I just take a q-tip, put it in the goop, dab it onto the brush then swirl it on my face. It is so light and non-greasy I don't even know I am wearing it. It is great for just evening out your skin tone and to give you a little "glow".  It's not cakey and doesn't feel like its clogging my poors.

Now, with anything that you are putting on your face it will not totally stay put. So my other secret weapon is:

URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER SPRAY
Now I actually mention this spray in the above "remove under eye circles" tutorial. I spritz this stuff on my face to keep all my make up in place. I use it for my foundation, concealer and blush. Trust me, it is SO WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY YOU HAVE EVER EARNED (yes, I needed to yell at there really quick, I didnt like it either but it needed to be done)

How to Make a Macaroon Purse

So, I used to have a pinterest, but then I deleted it because of all the legal crizzap that was going on.

and honestly, homegurl doesn't have the money right now to be sued by someone because I accidentally improperly re-pinned something.

Too much baby-daddy-mama-drama for my liking.

So instead I have been browsing pinterest and printing out all the fun DIYs I see on there. Upside to that? If I have all my favorite tutorials actually printed out I will be more likely to make them.

Enter this ca-yoot Macaroon purse tutorial I found!

Here are the photos from CraftPassion.com:

and here is how mine turned out!

isn't it cute?!

Will I be adding these to Yellow Heart Art? Heck to the no.

As cute as this lil change purse is it did take me a few hours to make. Everything was done by hand and I do have some battle wounds to show from it. (Ok, so maybe my battle wounds are little needle pricks, I'm going to sympathy points here guys)

Thank you Craft Passion for posting this how-to! Let me know if you guys make them :)

Share the Beauty! A link up party - Fav Eye Make up

so if you have seen photos of me before you'll notice that I have some big eyeballs all up in hea. I have a lot of rel-estate on my eyelids to use a ton of eye make up products.

Which is what this weeks Beauty Link Up Prompt is!

MY TOOLS FOR MY BIG HONKERS
(I mean eye balls guys, get your mind out of the gutter!)

1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow (Naked Pallet)
2. Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion
3. LashBlast Cover Girl Mascara

I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some urban decay. I have been a faithful fan since I went to my first spice girls concert back in 1999 (SPICE UP YO LIFE!)

Now, I have matured from the "super sparkly shimmery" urban decay eye shadow and have upgraded to a more sophisticated pallet (which, with the name "NAKED" is kinda ironic..no?)

Reasons why I love this pallet? Try EVERYTHING. If this make up set were to get down on one knee and propose to me I would probably run off and elope with it right there on the spot (sorry bubs)

Urban Decay's quality is spot on. It lasts all day and all the colors blend into one another BEAUTIFULLY. Also this pallet can take you from day to night. Use a nude shadow over your entire lid during the day, then add some darker tones into the corner of your lids for a more dramatic night time look.

Urban Decays also stole my heart again with their primer potion. This stuff needs to be in your make up bag. I noticed that the older I was getting my eye shadow seemed to "wear away" by the end of the day when I never used to have that problem. I talked about it with some of my friends and they said that they noticed the "older" they got the more oily the lids of their eye lids are now.

Light Bulb.

This is what exactly what was happening to me! Granted their not super oily, but my eye shadow wasn't holding up like it used to. Enter this primer potion. Place a SMALL amount of this potion on your eye lids, let it DRY COMPLETELY then apply your favorite shadow. It doesn't matter if you're using the cheap-o drug store brand or the stuff that Oprah wears, this stuff will make ANY eye shadow stay put AND look vibrant.

I tend to use this if I know I'm going to be out all night at a wedding or something. I don't use it every day since it really truly does make your eye shadow stay put. I will also admit right here right now that I have gone to bed with this stuff on and have woken up to a bangin' smokey eye from the night before.

Yellow Heart Readers, meet Covergirl's LashBlast Mascara, LashBlast Mascara, meet my readers.

Now that you guys are formally introduced I feel as though I can say GO OUT TO YOUR LOCAL DRUG STORE AND BUY THIS PRODUCT NOW.

Hand to heart, this is the best mascara I have ever used. I try to go cheap-o on make up whenever I can, and this here is my cheap drug store find guilty pleasure.

Now, I will admit, I do have some long lashes, but they dont really "curl up" or have much volume to them. The LashBlast mascara adds a TON of volume to your lashes and makes them curl up. They instantly change your look, in fact most days I dont even wear any make up except for this mascara and some blush.

Also if you use this please get the waterpoof kind. Yes, it is super annoying to take off at the end of the night BUT it wont leave little black flakes under your eye balls.

Wanna hear something weird? Cover girl also makes the "length" version of this mascara, whereas the lash blast is meant more for volume. They then made a hybrid of the LENGTH and the VOLUME version of this mascara. I of course ran out and bought it and was sorely disappointed. The combination mascara did not work as well as just the lashblast. My lashes had barely any volume to them at all.

Failures and Successes.

It's time to get real here today. How many times do you visit your favorite blog who has a handmade shop and you see *alllllllll* these places their stuff has been featured.

Maybe its  a top selling magazine, maybe its an e-zine, maybe it was a spot in an offical etsy newsletter.

Now these people SHOULD shout from the roof tops when their hard working stuff has gotten any sort of publicity. It makes me feel good for my friends when I see that Heather has her hair pretties in Seventeen Magazine or that my other friend (who shall remain nameless since she is keeping this on the down low-BUT I SO WANN TELL YOU WHO IT IS) can potentially have a book deal showcasing 50 how-to tutorials.

These things are AMAZING. They give you hope that one day you will be where they are today and get your work featured in a ha-uge magazine!

Here is one thing you should remember though. Whenever I write on my facebook wall or tweet that one of my plushes/prints was featured in the Huffington Post or at Rue Magazine or on Apartment Therapy etc this wasn't an instantaneous thing. All these things happened after I had my shop for about 9 months to a year.

I had zero sales at one point (hey we ALL had zero sales at one point ha!) and before I started my handmade business one of my goals in life was to get a T-shirt design of mine sold world wide. (in case you are new here I went to school for graphic design and have been working full time as a graphic designer for about 5+ years now)

Yeah, I tend to set my goals super high sometimes. Which also leads to a lot of disappointment.

So the design process began. I entered a TON of t-shirt design competitions (firefox had one when they were relaunching their site a few years back, threadless.com always has a ton going on, woot.com as well, I even submitted designs to places like dELias and House of Mental)

I got a TON of rejection letters. I even saved them all so that one day WHEN (not if but WHEN) a shirt of mine sold world wide I can be all like BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE I FREKKIN DID IT.

That day finally came. I had a t-shirt design being sold in 2 online shops. Crooked Monkey wholesales out their shirts to places like Urban Outfitters, dELias, Macy's etc and they gave me a shot & used my design! The shirt is retired now since this was about 4 years ago (and I was a lot younger so ignore the juvenile saying…plus that was the type of demographic they were going for), but you can check it out here!

I also have this design currently being sold as well. I couldn't be more happy.

But my point is, before ALL of those things even happened to me I heard a TON of "no's" before I heard my first ever "HELL YES!"

so just keep in mind when you see all these great things happening to your favorite bloggers and handmade shop owners just remember that they too dealt with disappointment and rejection. I don't want you guys to think that since day one everyone has been diggin' my stuff. That isn't fair to you guys for me to portray myself like that.

Also? Sometimes failures happen for a reason. Did you guys have a Steve and Barry's by you at all? They were popular on Long Island and when I graduated from College I wanted to work for them so.frekkin.bad (corporate NOT the actual shop haha) their head quarters were located on long island and I wanted to work there as a graphic designer designing their marketing and t-shirts. I stalked the head of the art department for DAYS. He got back to me, said he LOVED my portfolio, but did not have the experience to work there.

sigh.

I was upset at first but 9 month later Steve and Barry's went bankrupt and I would have been out a job.

Around the same time I had an opportunity to work for Sally Hansen corporate doing their marketing campaigns and designing their packages. Went on an interview and never heard from them. Got really upset by it and just let it go. 4 months AFTER my interview they contacted me and said they wanted to hire me. Problem was I JUST landed another graphic design job and didn't feel comfortable leaving it just yet. Turns out a year later Sally Hansen corporate moved their headquarters from Long Island to North Carolina and I would have been out a job again. (sound familiar to my steve and barry story?)

so sometimes the lack of success is meant to be. (hey trust me over here!)

So, I vow with every success that comes my way I will also mention my failures, cause I'm only human and failure is always an option.

I ask that you too take that vow. It's so easy to get wrapped up in other people's blogs and think they live this amazing life full of smooth sailings with no bumps. I can see how that can happen. We are so quick to tell the world about all our successes but hold back from sharing anything that shows we are human.

Also? The reason why I am even the least bit successful to begin with is because of all of you. Everyone who has ever purchased anything of mine or gave me advice on how to go the extra mile with my shop. Anyone who has ever Retweeted one of my shop announcement tweets or anyone that has blogged about my products. Anyone that wanted to follow along with me on my blog, facebook or twitter account. Thank you to ALL of you because let's be honest, with out ANY of you I would be nothing.

Shop News! Completely NEW Products!

I am so stoked to share with you all completely new products to hit Yellow Heart Art!

Introducing wood necklaces. All necklaces are 100% original artwork designed by me, I then used wood as a medium for my designs.

oh and PS-if you see any "serious" faces below its because of the following.

1. it was cold as EFF outside. New York hasn't gotten the memo yet that its spring time and that I should be frolicking in a field filled with daffodils while my fictitious dog gleefully chases after me.

2. It was windy. And cloudy. But that weird kind of cloudy where you still need sunglasses outside or else it hurts your eyeballs? wind + hidden sun = me not being able to keep my eyes open. I had to leave my eyes shut then yell to bub "COUNT TO 3 AND I'LL OPEN MY EYES!". Our photoshoot was a hot mess.

3. Due to me making the "im-so-effin-cold-it-hurts-to-smile" faces bubs kept trying to get me to smile by yelling out random male body parts. He's a keeper folks.

Flower Bib Wood Necklace by Yellow Heart Art

Wood Bow Necklace by Yellow Heart Art

Vespa Scooter Necklace by Yellow Heart Art

Also added some cay-oote new plushes to the shop!

adding some arrows to our popular camera plush!

and don't be fooled by the oh-so-tyra-banks-esque photos above of yours truly. Here are some more classics the Bubs took this weekend...

 seriously bub?

lookin' hot for the paparazzi. and by hot I mean freezing my ass off. this face is pure grumpiness at its finest moment.

making me laugh...
...then yellin' at him to make me stop laughing.

its love folks.

Share the Beauty! A link up party - Face Care

How was everyone's weekend?

Mine just involved having my boyfriend getting pelted by a 4 barrel head paint ball machine made by the Mythbusters Jamie Hynenman & Adam Salvage while sporting a Medieval Suit of Armor.

A typical sunday night.

Now while my boyfriend was busy moisturizing his face with paintballs I, on the other hand, have a different technique.

This week's Share the Beauty prompt is face care! Now I will admit, this prompt was a little hard for me because, well, I don't really care for my mug too often.

oops.

I keep my face care routine fairly simple. I have bizarro combination skin. Right smack in between my eyebrows and forehead area gets super dry, whereas my nose can be on the oily side.

I read somewhere that if you want to prevent wrinkles it is way important to moisturize your face all day erryday. (yeah I dont like to use "v's" when writing "everyday" makes me sound gangsta) Even if your face is as smooth as a baby's behind it is important to start locking in all that moisture in your face NOW before you start showing wrinkles to keep your skin all elastic and shiz.

Now what is everyone's "go-to" gift for a chick you barely know? Oh yeah, those bath and body gift baskets full of a bagillion lotions.

Confession alert: I.hate.lotion.

I feel as though no matter HOW many times I rub that darn stuff onto my body it never ever fully "absorbs" so I feel like slimer all day.

BUT ironically enough my mom hooked me up with a non greasy face lotion that I want to spoon with at night because it is that.frekkin.good.

Oil of olay is inexpensive and is a miracle worker. I use this stuff on my face almost everyday. It's harder for me to use it in the summer time because I can't bring myself to lather my face with lotion while sweating like Richard Simmons sweatin' to some oldies.

This stuff is amazing. It has a very light scent that isn't overpowering AND actually absorbs into your skin leaving it feeling natural and not like slimer. A little goes a long way. Concentrate around your eyes where "Crows feet" will start to form to prevent them from being so deep in the future. I love to use this stuff before putting on my foundation.

Keeping up with the theme of non-greasy things on my mug another important thing you can do for your face besides moisturizing is using sunscreen. Now, I know what you're thinking, putting sunscreen on your face is pretty much like putting lard on your face. Its white, greasy, and just lays there.

Wrong!

Now, I have to give my cousin credit for this gem. She introduced me to Nuetrogena's sunscreen that is specifically meant for your face. It is non-greasy and doesn't smell like normal sunscreen. Don't get me wrong, its not scent-free but it is NOT as strong as sunscreen.

This stuff is amazeballs. I was skeptical at first but I am now a believer. If I know I'm going to be outside at a BBQ all day I'll usually skip my oil of olay lotion and just do the neutrogena sunscreen and THEN put my foundation over it. It is super lightweight.

Finally when I wanna wipe off all my foundation and eye make up with out scrubbing really hard at my face I use Neutrogena makeup remover.

It is *slightly* oily, but it does work. It is gentle on your face and takes off my industrial "no-budge-water proof" Mascara easily. After using this I do recommend just taking some cool water on a face cloth and just wipe any oil residue away.
