Works in Progress Wednesday! The "let it snow" edition

I love love love designing things for friends.

I love designing them more so when it involves thee most wonderful time of the year (and no, I'm not talking about the Victoria's Secret semi annual sale, although this is a glorious time of the year--one that my boobies thank me for)

I am talkin' bout the Holidays! Ya know, Chestnuts roasting on an open fire--the stockings hung from the fireplace with care--he knows when you are sleeping he knows when you're awake mumbo jumobo (ok, Santa knowing when I'm sleeping VS awake is kinda creepy--just stalk my facebook Santa, like all my High School friends & relatives do...)

 When Jessica and Kim wanted handmade gift guides for their blogs I was all like "uhh heck yeah let's make it happen!"

Here is what I whipped up for Jessica:

and since snow is almost in full force here in NY it was perfect that Kirtley contacted me around this time to come up with some new branding for her etsy shop! Her shop name is Snowdrift Designs, so I kept it modern enough to be used all year round with just the right mix of a "snow" theme!

Pretty Things & A Giveaway!

(ok guys give me a break, I never said I could sing...)

Some of you may or may not know that I have an unhealthy obsession with handmade shops.

Sometimes I think I need to join some group where we all sit in a circle, stare at each other, stand up, state our name (have everyone say in unison 'hi insert name here') and we all just spill our guts out about all the ballin' shops we love, buy, and wear all.the.time.

So instead of a circle group meeting I'm gonna use a blog post to give you a peek into some of my etsy/big cartel purchases that make me feel oh so preeeeetty (ok, promise I'll stop with the singing now--maybe)

(True Story: I wore this to work and the President of my company thought I was wearing 1/2 an earmuff. Yes, sir, I left the other side at home...the right ear wasn't getting along with the left ear so it was just best to separate them)

She makes THEE BEST pearl necklaces that are really great quality and extremely affordable. I love that I can dress it up or down--and the fact that its yellow really doesn't hurt either ;) )

Side Note: Whenever I hear "Twilly Pop" I instantly get N SYNC's song "Dirty Pop" stuck in my hear, but I replace "dirty" with "twilly" cause I'm extra cool like that.

You know what I seriously dig?

I dig supporting other handmade businesses.

I also dig dressin' up mah 'do with some "hair bling" as I so endearingly call it.

I own a redic amount of headbands (I won't tell you the exact amount, but just know that I claimed territory on top of Bub's and I dresser for all my hair swag--a small child could get lost in all my stuff. Please don't bring your kids over my apartment, I can't guarantee that you'll leave with them)

Come and Knock with some Joy

So as some of you may or may not know I went full throttle into the handmade biz in January of this year. Little did I know opening up my own little corner of art on Etsy would be so rewarding.

I had no idea that when I opened up Yellow Heart Art I would meet such incredible other lovelies who were also indie biz owners. To me Yellow Heart Art was a way for me to finally be creative and sell things from the heart. Yeah I work full time as a graphic designer but its all corporate designs and layouts (they don't let me use mustard yellow you guys, I know its sucha tragedy)

The network of people I have met is mind blowing. I have been swapping my prints for some of Alison's clutches. Lindsay sent me a painting of a wicked awesome camera. My entire paycheck basically goes to Kim and Amy was one of my first sales from my shop. Little did I know Amy's purchase would be more than just a "print and ship" deal. Amy and I chat regularly and I really truly do consider her as one of my genuine friends.

Amy & Kim are so baller that they even created some swag in their shops (really awesome shops by the way) that were Yellow Heart Art inspired (I know guys, total swoon worthy right there) Amy's shop on Etsy started out as fun wreaths and quickly warped into more than just home decor. She took the style of her wreaths and turned it into wearable art (I know my mind is blown too) This little lovely will be in my home ASAP (ya know, when I actually GET a home. Don't judge me guys I live in NY where everything is so stinkin expensive. I should move somewhere more awesome like paris. OooOO Paris…)
